Aikido, being a Japanese martial art, follows Japanese etiquette. This includes a thankful standing bow upon entering and exiting the dojo. Removing footwear for cleanliness. A seated (seiza) more formal bow when stepping onto the mat (tatami) and at the beginning and end of practice.
Ukemi:
When receiving techniques, conditioning practice involves minimizing damage to the body by learning to dissipate the falling energy along the mat by rolling or striking the mat.
Beginning:
It is recommended that beginners observe a session or two in order to become familiar with the proceedings.
Due to the decorum and self-control needed, beginners should have reached a minimum age of ten years.
